Around
and about - day 2 in Bahrain.
After a hearty breakfast of cheddar cheese omelette and coffee at Fuddruckers, we headed to the Bahrain National Museum. Spent a good 2.5 hours there before meeting up with the boys for lunch - lamb mandi (saudi rice) and chicken.
Having had an overdose of new knowledge in the morning, we opted for something a little less intense and headed to BCC for a spot of shopping instead - much to Aunt Cindy's glee. Admittedly though, uncle Malc had a good time checking out the various local (Mid-east) catch-of-the-day, cheeses, olives, dates and sweets at Carrefour. Moroccan tea at Bindaira cafe. Did a couple of errands. And before you knew it, time for dinner!
Met up with hubby for Chinese at Beijing Restaurant in Adliya. Strolled down to the shawarma shops to take a look see.
Back home. Knackered again. Sleeping early as tomorrow is an early start. Will be in Dubai for the next 3 days so this blog will remain untouched till my return to Bahrain. Don't worry, we'll be fine. :)

They're here!
We picked aunt cindy and uncle malc from the airport yesterday evening, and boy was it good to see them!!! After a late dinner of Indian cuisine yesterday evening (of course we ate with our hands - hehehehe), I was too knackered to boot up the laptop at work and finish off the reports due. Instead, I dug myself up bright and early at 5 this morning to complete and e-mail said work back to the office before I started my day proper as a tourist guide.
Both aunt cindy and uncle malc woke up quite early too and I had little choice but to stall for time by offering them home brewed Penang coffee first, as I hurried about in tying up loose ends for work. Finally left home at 9:30am for a simple breakfast of puri and pratha (i.e. roti canai - uncle malc's fave) at the Century Restaurant in Adliya.
Whiled away the later part of the morning by taking a long lazy drive down south - cruising through the city, passing the ancient burial mounds in Al'Ali, then the F1 circuit before stopping for a little while at Jazayer Beach. On the way back, we stopped at the Al Areen Wildlife Sanctuary so that uncle Malc could take a look at live Arabian Oryxs.
After the mandatory cup of tea, we headed back towards civilisation for lunch. Brought them to Fast Food in Um Al Hassan, which serves halal Filipino food. Then it was a beeline back home, as I needed to make/ return a few work-related calls.
Later in the evening, took a stroll to Al Jazeera where aunty cindy and uncle malc looked around, pleased at how well stocked the supermarket was, given its size.
Then, whilst waiting for hubby to return from work for dinner, uncle malc continued with his reading (thank god i knowingly stocked up on books) whilst aunty cindy and i caught up and yakked away.
Dinner was a scrumptious spread at Abraaj in Muharraq. Both of them lounged around for a little while whereas hubby and I caught up on work again.
It has been a long day. Tired and calling it a night now. Toodles!

Stress
After a week of stress, finally managed to catch up on sleep yesterday evening. We had a relatively busy day, preparing for aunty cindy and uncle malc’s visit to Bahrain mid this week. The next two days will probably be tied up trying to finish as much as work as possible before they arrive. After which, we will play tour guide and host for a week. Really looking forward to this.
In the meantime, will try to keep you posted, but internet connection at home has been unbelievably frustratingly sketchy.
Ok lar, I also admit, knowing that you guys are away on tour has also made me a little lazy during the past week. But oh well, trust me, you have not missed much of my “exciting” life here in Bahrain. *grin* Plus, am trying to reduce my dependency on the internet – I confess that this may be turning into an addiction and that seriously, I need to limit the “leisure” time spent after work with the laptop.

Clarification
Before I set panic bells ringing, would like to clarify that my FB status is merely a "private joke" between some friends and I - and thus should not be read out of context or misconstrued ...hehehehehee...
Hope things are well and that you are packed and ready to jet off on Monday :D

Disappointed
A friend asked me over MSN, "What do you do when someone lies and lies again?"
We briefly debated if it is just sometimes better to be ignorant. Less smart. Don't ask questions. Because "what I don't know would not hurt me" right? - am embarassed to admit that we even considered such stone age thinking, even if for a fleeting moment.
"Aiya, have heard all this crap before. Gone through this once, twice, thrice. Tis' tiring. Just one word - disappointed."
I emphatise fully. Poor babe.

Food crawl
Am a bit torn about what to blog about. On one hand, I want to update folks at home on life in the Middle East (although it isn't as if something mega exciting is happening here), on the other I also seem to have a backlog of posts from the recent trip home. Decisions, decisions, decisions....ok, remembered I haven't updated you about meeting up with MZ yet and the never ending food crawl we went on.
Anyway, with YL and HX in tow, these were some of the makan stalls we covered in KL.
1. PJ Jalan 222 Ah Wah Hokkien Mee (KL style) - this is the only stall of hokkien mee which hubby takes. He thinks this dish is generally boring but makes an exception for this particular establishment. I, on the other hand, don't usually order the dish as I don't consider it value for money, in the sense that it is generally only udon-like noodles coated with black sauce and very limited meat or vegetables, save bits of deep fried pork lard which I used to set aside anyway. BUT...having not had Hokkien Mee for more than a year, this dish certainly tasted lip smacking good, sinful chu yau cha included!! It was so good, we ordered seconds and absolutely stuffed ourselves to the brim.
2. Kei Tak Sek (literally meaning "Remember to Eat") Dessert House in SS2. I had clean forgotten just how tough it can be looking for a parking space here on a Friday night! We used to frequent this place with bro lots, when he was still at uni in Cyberjaya and camped over on the weekends in Subang. That was yonks ago - how time flies. Nonetheless, this place is still doing very very brisk business, although we amusingly noted how we were one of the very few families there as most tables were occupied by dating couples instead!
Despite being extremely full from item 1 above, the kiddos wouldn't say no to a heap of shaved ice bathed in mango or kiwi fruit and syrup, with plenty of sago at the bottom of the bowl .
3. Pudu roast goose rice. Another place which we haven't visited for a looooong time. Half a goose, suen choy (er....pickled vegetables?) which tingled your taste buds, meat ball soup and a really small bowl of pig trotters (chu kiok chou) at hubby's request. Also shared some roast pork prepared by the Hungry Hog (http://thehungryhog.blogspot.com), one of bro's friends who had started this niche weekend business so erhm, in a gesture of support (plus we were curious too lar!), we placed an order - the siew yoke was quite good, with very very crunchy crackled skin. Yums.
Picked MZ up as his bus arrived in KL late Saturday evening, swung by Subang for him collect some stuff for a stay over at our place, before heading off for dinner.
4. Face 2 Face at Damansara Uptown - serves pretty good S'wak Kolo Mee and Chilli Pan Meen in an air conditioned environment. Only when we sat down and ordered did MZ spill the beans and said "Aiya...there is a Face 2 Face just around the corner from where I stay lar!!!" Jeez!!! Say lar earlier!!! -___-
5. A&W PJ - Hheheeheheh....brings back memories ML (although we had hung out at the Curve the last time around)? We had a blast here - dinner after dinner *rolls eyes upwards* Onion rings, fried chicken, root beer floats, waffles with ice cream.....
Argh....can't.eat.any.more. Last meal before we left for Bahrain the next morning!!

Dubai again
soon. :)
Been planning aunty cindy's and uncle malc's coming visit and since I'm in charge, this means plenty of work comparing prices to identify value for money deals. *sigh*
Bad (or good?) habit. If it were left to hubby, he would probably have just hopped to the travel agent to get it sorted in an hour.
As for me, I went to the travel agent last weekend to enquire about deals. And then on top of that, camped out at home and surfed around to make sure no one was pulling a fast one on me.
Am quite settled on flights and dates. The tricky one to decide on is accommodation. I am looking for:
- Clean
- Not in-your-face dodgy - I checked the online reviews at tripadvisor.com >> threw out all those establishments with complaints about noisy discos, working girls...there was this one which said "Facilities - Chinese lounge, Russian bar and Indian disco available"....er, I think I will pass
- Furniture is not too dated
- Strategically located in an interesting part of town that needs to balance out shopping (for aunt cindy) and local/ historical stuff for uncle malc - preferably within walking distance.
Oh and of course I have a budget for the above too. Hubby rolls his eyes at what he deems is an impossible feat I am attempting to achieve.
What to do? I am like that lor. Hubby says, "Sendiri bawa sakit untuk sendiri" [i.e. Cantonese: Chi kei lor fu lei san]
Ha! I shall not give up on my quest!!
